Oh I could rabbit on for pages as some do. With regard to the future of our water services, the resolution put in place by nine elected members (me included) was sensible, practical and adaptable.
Pushing back on Minister Watts/DIA (one of the most powerful ministries) plus a plethora of mayors and others with self-interest, is a battle that hasn’t ended.
If I lived in an urban area, I would be investing in a suitable storage tank, a pressure pump and an appropriate entry point treatment unit to collect water off my roof. This would future proof budgets as water is going to become an expensive commodity, whether it stays with Council or leaves.
If more people installed a water tank, we’d reduce the pressure on our stormwater system and reduce the pressure on our water infrastructure – saving Rates. Keeping water services in-house gives us a chance to balance the budget for the district – separating water services means we’ll keep paying, but will have no say.
